On the Record
A helicopter, Trolltunga, and an international campaign for artist Prince Kim
In October 2023, the Norwegian newspaper Hardanger Folkeblad covered Wired to Create's application to land a helicopter at Trolltunga for an international Prince Kim campaign.
In October 2023, the Norwegian newspaper Hardanger Folkeblad reported on an unusually ambitious creative brief. Wired to Create, the studio founded by Anik Devaughn, had applied to Ullensvang municipality for permission to land a helicopter at Trolltunga, the dramatic cliff above Ringedalsvatnet that ranks among the most photographed natural landmarks in the world.
The purpose was an editorial photoshoot of the upcoming pop artist Prince Kim. The imagery was planned for an international campaign across social media, magazines, and The Prince Kim Story, the upcoming YouTube documentary about the artist. In the application, the team noted that the shoot would also be a lift for tourism in the region.
The municipality declined, citing the strict regulation of motorized traffic in Norwegian wilderness areas and the commercial nature of the project. The tourism argument came back after the decision, this time raised by Norwegians themselves.
The permit did not come through. The ambition behind it, staging a world-class artist against one of the planet's most cinematic backdrops for a global campaign, is a fair snapshot of how Wired to Create builds a brand.
The photo material from Trolltunga would be used, among other things, to promote Prince Kim internationally on several platforms, including social media, magazines, and an upcoming documentary about the artist on YouTube.
